Having moved to Australia ten years ago James’ passion for creating high performing leaders, teams and individuals has created a reputation for transforming businesses, their culture and their results.

Adopting an approach founded upon authentic and honest conversations, James is able to quickly establish highly effective relationships at all levels and start focusing on the actions and initiatives that will start to make a difference. Long term, sustainable results and outcomes are the aim.

James’ career started with Lloyds Bank in the UK working his way to branch management as well as a financial planner working in both the retail and business sectors. In the late 1990s James joined Richard Branson’s Virgin empire at Virgin Money helping revolutionise the banking offer for customers across the UK. This is where James credits his most enjoyable five years of his corporate life and where a lot of James’ beliefs around business, culture and brand were founded.

In 2003 James started Nickell working with businesses as diverse as Virgin, Fine & Rare Wines in London, Autoglass (O’Brien to us here in Australia) as well as the UK Government Job Centre+ contact centres helping them focus on clear goal setting and creating great customer experiences.

In late 2007 James and his family had the opportunity to emigrate to the southern hemisphere and within 4 months James and his family had packed up and moved to Sydney and haven’t looked back since embracing all that this wonderful country has to offer. In May 2014 the family became true-blue Aussie citizens.

The first few years here from February 2008 saw James take on various roles for AMP including Head of Sales for the Direct Sales business and Head of Channel Effectiveness helping coach and develop the team in the Customer Value side of the business. James also ran the direct sales business and before departing in early 2013 played a consulting role to large parts of the AMP Financial Planning network. Soon after and in March 2013 Nickell Australia was launched.

In the time running his own business in Australia James has forged excellent client relationships with organisations and the people within them such as TAL, Suncorp, Coca-Cola South Pacific, Kinetic Super and several smaller, boutique businesses all focused on creating a high-performance culture where people are clear on their purpose, their goals and how to work better together. James’ passion is only matched by that of his clients’ desire to be the best version of themselves and achieve things they perhaps never envisaged possible.

James lives on the beautiful south coast of NSW and when not travelling and working with his great clients, loves to play golf, go fishing and spending time with his family and friends as well as finding time to complete writing his first book entitled ‘Donuts and Funnels,’ due out soon.

James and Nickell specialise in:

  • leadership development
  • high performing team focus and development
  • sales leadership and management
  • goal setting and accountability management
  • sales skills
  • conference and motivational speaking
  • James is also an HBDI accredited practitioner
